In order to provide economic opportunities for 竞技宝DOTA2 chefs during the pandemic when other traditional opportunities are more limited, 我们开发了“让它转发”项目, which connects chefs to opportunities to cook homestyle meals that go towards neighborhood mutual aid/distribution efforts to feed 500 of our unsheltered neighbors in West and North Oakland.

We’ve partnered with 吉尔道农场 to directly connect 竞技宝DOTA2 chefs to community-based relief efforts for supplies and 食品安全 through our Farmers to Family Food Box program — a free weekly CSA produce box delivered directly to our base of refugee chefs and their families.

竞技宝DOTA2 is working with the 东湾社区法律中心 to develop Oakland’s first cooperative restaurant group.
Traditional restaurant groups are exploitative in nature and tend to favor investors in equity and decision making power, while also not giving chefs’ their fair share of equity and agency/ power. 竞技宝DOTA2 is working to completely flip this model to create an alternative solution to 融资 — one that is equitable and fair, as well as dedicated to honoring the hard work of chefs in a way that prioritizes majority chef equity and chef-decision making power. The cooperative restaurant group will also provide a suite of back-end services to participating entrepreneurs that will cover a variety of needs: legal, 会计, 融资, 业务发展, 等.

Anti-Displacement倡议
This collaboration in Chinatown not only provides opportunities to showcase 竞技宝DOTA2’s immigrant/refugee chefs, but also supports a grassroots campaign against the targeted discrimination and displacement that long-time local businesses are facing in 奥克兰中国城. An important goal is to lift working-class immigrant businesses and end targeting/ displacement of Chinatown Oakland businesses by the County Health Department. 竞技宝DOTA2 is invested in community building with Chinatown and has long-term plans to set its headquarters in Chinatown as it is currently housed out of the 卫理公会华人社区联合教会 and runs its training program out of the CCUMC kitchen.

The 竞技宝DOTA2 pandemic has created new realities that are forcing fundamental change. While the pandemic has surfaced deep inequities in Oakland that further put poor and working class communities of color at risk, 它也为新的解决方案的出现创造了机会.

在过去, 竞技宝DOTA2 has hosted small pilot underground night markets in downtown Oakland that were incredibly well-received and sold out with 150 seatings each night and over 1000 attendees over the course of the series.
